Growing Disciples
This class helps each person grow deeper in faith through study, prayer, discussion and action. For the 2010 – 2011 year, we will continue to follow a systematic Bible study using the outline provided by “Disciple: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study.”
Beginning where we left off last June at the end of John’s gospel, we will spend three weeks on each chapter of the study guide: praying on a passage the first Sunday using the lectio divina format; and discussing the reading on the second and third Sundays. Each lesson is built on a topic that is present in the Bible text, bringing us to wrestle with foundational issues like sin, grace, righteousness, suffering and discipleship.
Grounding ourselves in Bible study and working with the topics brought up by the text will challenge us, feed our souls, spur us to action and build community. We will share leadership among all the class members. Although this is a continuation of last year’s class, new members are welcome at any time.
Coordinators: Susan Riggs, Walter Hylton & Chapman Taylor. Room 12
Pairs & Spares
The Pairs and Spares class is oriented towards the interest and needs of seniors. We use the Adult Bible Studies material as a guide. This fall we explore the nature of God as the first person of the Trinity through the study of selected scriptures from the Exodus stories of Moses and from the poetry of the Book of Psalms. You are invited to join us in Room 28 where you will find good fellowship, comfortable chairs and lively discussion at 9:45 am each Sunday.
Teacher: Audrey Fawcett. Room 28
Faith Fellowship
The Faith Fellowship class is for the person seeking an opportunity for small group study of issues that connect faith and life as United Methodists. Study resources from Cokesbury are used to explore current events and faith questions. For the fall and winter classes, the class will use a FaithLink guide that will be delivered weekly by e-mail and/or printed for in-class use.
Taking time for fellowship is also important; both within the class and outside the classroom.

Common Ground
Throughout history untold millions have suffered because of disagreement over religious orthodoxy – the certain knowledge of sacred truths concerning the nature of God, life, nature, man, sin, salvation, the afterlife, rules for living, and many others.
This class will examine how different religious and cultural orthodoxies and traditions compare with those of Christianity in their understanding of, explanations for, rules about, and values with respect to the great questions pondered by humanity throughout history.
Topics for discussion will be guided this year by the text “Einstein’s God” by Krista Trippett. But we will also call on a variety of sacred texts and writings by many authors which will be provided.
Teacher: Scott Pickens. Room 25.
Faith Café
The Faith Café meets each Sunday morning in the Wesley Room adjacent to the sanctuary 9:50-10:30a.m. Facilitated by Pastor Dave and others, this class uses recent publications of books, articles and reviews of topics of interest to the class. This is a “drop in” class.
